Dr. Yun-Fai Chris Lau, Professor of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), has been appointed the Inaugural ACGA Historian. The newly created ACGA Historian position aims to maintain the association’s legacy and foster a deep understanding of its core values. In this capacity, Dr. Lau will lead efforts including:

  • Collect, organize, and archive ACGA’s historical records, including major documents and key records.
  • Curate memorabilia, photographs, and media from ACGA events and activities.
  • Document the ACGA award recipients.
  • Educate the membership community on ACGA’s history and mission.
  • Provide counsel to the ACGA Board on history, legacy, and cultural continuity.

Dr. Lau’s history with ACGA spans decades, during which he has been actively involved in various activities and initiatives that have shaped our community. As a Past President of ACGA, he provided visionary leadership that significantly strengthened the ACGA’s mission and growth. His deep knowledge of ACGA’s history, values, and milestones uniquely positions him to preserve our rich legacy. Dr. Lau is widely respected among colleagues and peers for his exceptional contributions to genetics and unwavering commitment to mentoring the next generation of scientists.

Dr. Lau’s research focuses on the Y chromosome and its role in human development and diseases. He has mentored generations of scientists and played an integral role in fostering collaboration among Chinese geneticists worldwide. Dr. Lau was the recipient of the 2024 ACGA Excellence in Education Award.
